BIOGRAPHY
Jessica (Jekka) McVicar is a pioneer in organic herb cultivation. She recently won her 9th Golden Prize in the Chelsea Flower Show (2004).
Jekka started cultivating herbs in a small garden in Bristol, 30 years ago. Since then herbs have become her life.
In 1985 she created a family farm in south Gloucestershire, where today she cultivates more than 300 herb varieties and holds the largest collection of culinary and medicinal herbs in Britain.
Apart from her everyday occupation in the farm, Jekka McVicar appears regularly in gardening and cooking programs on TV and radio. For three years she hosted a series of BBC radio shows called Herbs Pure and Simple.
She writes articles in all the leading gardening magazines and has published three very successful books on organic herb cultivation: Jekka’ s Complete Herb Book, Good Enough to Eat (reprinted as Cooking With Flowers), Seeds and New Book of Herbs.
Jekka McVicar is chairman of the Royal Horticultural Society and member of many RHS committees.
